# How to Add an AI Chatbot to Your WordPress Site

An AI chatbot answers your visitors around the clock and only passes the hard questions to you. On WordPress you can add one in about ten minutes, with no code. This guide gives you two concrete methods – a plugin and an embed script – then the part that actually matters: training the bot on your own content so it gives useful answers, not generic ones.

## Two ways to add one

Most AI chat tools (for example Tidio, Chatbase, Chatling, or Intercom’s Fin) offer both: a WordPress plugin, or an embed script you paste once. Use the plugin if the provider has one – it is the simplest. Use the script for any provider that doesn’t. Either way you need a (free) account with the chatbot provider first.

## Method 1: Add it with a plugin

1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to **Plugins → Add New Plugin**.
2. Search for your provider’s name (e.g. “Tidio”), then click **Install Now** and **Activate**.
3. Open the plugin’s settings and sign in to (or create) your provider account. Its free plan is enough to start.
4. The chat widget now appears on your site. In the plugin or provider dashboard, set where it shows, its position, and its colours.

## Method 2: Add any chatbot with an embed code

If your provider has no plugin, it gives you a small `<script>` snippet instead:

1. In the provider’s dashboard, copy the widget’s embed/install snippet.
2. Install a code-snippet plugin such as **WPCode** (or use your theme’s header/footer option if it has one).
3. Paste the snippet into the **footer** (so it loads before the closing body tag), set it site-wide, and save.
4. Reload your site – the chat bubble appears in the corner.

## Make it answer from your content

This is what turns a generic bot into a useful one. In the provider’s dashboard, add your own material as training sources:

- **Point it at your site.** Most tools let you enter your domain or sitemap URL and crawl your pages automatically.
- **Upload documents.** Add your FAQ, price list, or policy PDFs so answers match your real details.
- **Set a fallback.** Tell it to offer your contact form or a human hand-off when it isn’t sure, instead of guessing.
- **Add a few starter questions** so visitors see what it can help with.

## Test before you rely on it

Ask it five real questions a customer would – pricing, delivery, a common problem. Where the answer is wrong or vague, fix the page it learned from, then re-train. Keep the bot on one or two pages until the answers are solid, then roll it out everywhere.
