Understanding DDoS Protection on Your VPS

Every JetHost VPS includes always-on DDoS protection with no extra setup or fees. This guide explains what it protects against and how the tiers differ across plans.

What DDoS protection does

A DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack tries to overwhelm your server with junk traffic so real visitors can’t reach it. JetHost’s DDoS shield filters that traffic at the network edge – protecting against both volumetric floods and Layer 7 (application) attacks – so your services stay online.

Free vs. Advanced protection

  • Free DDoS protection – included on VPS Mini, Start and Plus
  • Advanced DDoS protection – included on VPS Power, Maverick and Business for larger, more sophisticated attacks

Nothing to configure

Protection is on by default – there’s no dashboard to set up. For targeted abuse of a single IP, you can also use the Null Route option on the Networking tab as an emergency measure.

JetHost Experts Tip

DDoS protection defends the network, but your own firewall and up-to-date software defend the server itself. Use them together: closed ports and patched services give attackers far less to aim at.
