How to Migrate a WordPress Site to JetHost

Moving a WordPress site to JetHost is easier than most people expect. You have two routes: let our team do it for you with the free managed migration, or move it yourself with a plugin or by hand. This guide walks through all three so you can pick what suits you – and finish with your site running faster, with no lost content and no downtime.

Option 1: Free managed migration (recommended)

The simplest route is to let us handle it. Contact our team through Client Area → Support (or email us), share access to your current host, and our team copies your WordPress files, database, and emails over, tests the site on our servers, and helps you switch the domain when it’s ready. You can see what’s covered on our free website migration page. It’s free, with no limit on the number of sites. Most people are done without touching a single file.

Option 2: Move it yourself with a plugin

If you prefer to do it yourself, a migration plugin is the easiest DIY method:

  1. Install a migration plugin (such as All-in-One WP Migration or Duplicator) on your current site and export a full package of files and database.
  2. Install a fresh WordPress on your JetHost account – quickest via the JetHost WordPress Manager.
  3. Install the same plugin on the new site and import the package.
  4. Check the imported site using a temporary URL before changing anything public.

Option 3: Manual migration

For full control, move the parts by hand: copy the WordPress files over FTP/SFTP into public_html, export the database from your old host and import it into a new database on JetHost (see back up & restore a MySQL database), then update the database credentials in wp-config.php. It’s more work, but nothing is hidden from you.

Test, then point your domain

Whichever route you take, review the site on JetHost before going live – check pages, links, and the admin login. When it all works, point your domain to JetHost by updating the nameservers or DNS, and the switch happens with no downtime. If you moved the database by hand, see how to see a moved WordPress on a new hosting to preview before the DNS change. Don’t forget to migrate your emails too.

JetHost Experts Tip

Lower your domain’s DNS TTL to 300 seconds a day before you switch. When you finally change the records, the internet picks up JetHost almost immediately instead of waiting hours – making the cutover feel instant.
