DNS is one of those things nobody thinks about until it breaks. Then it is the only thing anyone thinks about.
For a long time, changing DNS at JetHost meant knowing exactly where to look. Nameservers lived in one place. Records lived in cPanel. Pointing a domain at your hosting meant copying values between screens and hoping you got them right. It worked – but every week our support team answered the same handful of questions, and every week I watched perfectly capable people get tripped up by something that should have taken thirty seconds.
So we rebuilt it. And I am weirdly proud of how it turned out.
Where this started
It started, like most of our projects do, in the support inbox. We keep a running list of the things people ask us most often, and “how do I point my domain to you?” sat near the top for months. Not because it is hard, but because the answer involved three screens and a paragraph of instructions.
At some point one of us said the obvious thing out loud: what if it was just one button? That was the whole brief, really. Take the tasks people actually do – point a domain, change nameservers, add a record – and put them in one place that explains itself.
What it actually fixes
The new DNS Manager lives under your domain, with everything on one screen: your records, your nameservers, and a Connect to hosting button that does the copying-between-screens part for you. No cPanel detour. No hunting for the right values.
No more guessing which nameservers to use
The part I appreciate most is that you don’t have to know the “right answer” anymore. When you click Connect to hosting, it sets the correct nameservers for your account automatically – the exact ones your hosting needs, filled in for you. No digging through emails for the values, no copying them across screens, no wondering whether you picked the right pair. You tell it where the domain should point, and it handles the rest.
The part that made it worth it
Here is the moment I think about. A customer who had opened a ticket the week before – stuck on nameservers, a little frustrated, totally reasonably – came back after we shipped this and wrote two words: “oh, nice.” That was it. No ticket. No back-and-forth. Just someone doing the thing they came to do and moving on with their day.
That is the whole point. The best hosting tools are the ones you barely remember using. Our support team has already felt the difference – fewer “where do I click” tickets, more time for the questions that actually need a human.
I am keeping the how-to details light here on purpose. If you want the step-by-step, it all lives in our DNS Help Center.
It’s live now
The new DNS Manager is available for every JetHost client – just open a domain under My Domains and take a look. If something feels off, or there is a DNS feature you wish we’d add next, tell us. Half of what we build starts exactly that way: someone asking for the thing that should have been there all along.
And if you never think about our DNS Manager again after using it – honestly, that means we did our job.
